0:06
hi guys welcome back to my channel my
0:08
name is heaven and today we are going to
0:09
be discussing potty training and how we
0:12
potty trained our two-year-old son
0:14
within one week so to get started i'm
0:17
going to be talking about some of the
0:18
tools and resources that we use going
0:20
into the potty training process as well
0:23
as some tips for success the most
0:25
important tip that i have is just to
0:29
ensure and i know you guys have heard
0:31
this before but it is so important to
0:33
ensure that your toddler is actually
0:35
ready to be potty trained because it's
0:37
helpful in the process and in the long
0:40
run because if your toddler isn't ready
0:42
to be potty trained you may run into an
0:45
instance where although you have had
0:47
success later on down the line your
0:49
toddler may regress where they will then
0:52
start to use the bathroom on their self
0:55
or in their underwear again because they
0:57
weren't actually ready and they were
0:59
kind of just in the motion of it and
1:02
just excited about it for a short period
1:04
of time so just to make sure that they
1:05
are fully prepared and to make sure that
1:07
it sticks you just want to make sure
1:08
that your toddler is fully ready to be
1:12
potty trained it will save a lot of
1:14
stress a lot of tension and a lot of
1:16
difficulty and that's not to say that
1:18
potty training isn't going to be
1:19
stressful and difficult already but it
1:22
will be a lot less stressful and a lot
1:24
less difficult if your toddler is ready
1:27
it will also be more of a fun and a
1:29
learning experience full of you know
1:31
just happiness just due to the fact that
1:33
your toddler is completing a new
1:36
milestone as opposed to you forcing
1:38
something on your toddler because you
1:40
are ready even though they are not so
1:43
readiness for potty training is going to
1:44
look different on every toddler it's
1:46
going to be different and it's going to
1:48
be based upon your toddler your
1:53
in general it's just gonna be different
1:55
for every toddler and for every parent
1:57
in every household so some ways that we
2:00
knew our toddler was ready to be potty
2:02
trained was that he began to
2:04
be able to communicate with us so if
2:07
your toddler isn't able to actually
2:09
communicate with you and even if he
2:10
isn't forming full sentences if you can
2:12
communicate with your toddler and your
2:14
toddler can communicate with you then
2:17
they will be able to communicate with
2:18
you when they need to go paddy so if
2:20
they cannot fully or communicate with
2:23
you in some form or type of way just
2:26
generally then it'll be difficult for
2:27
you to get them to communicate to you
2:29
that they need to go potty so our son he
2:31
began to communicate a lot more once he
2:34
turned to when he was one he still was
2:36
trying to form his first words and he
2:39
was barely forming sentences so when he
2:41
was one years old it was a lot more
2:43
difficult for us to potty train him when
2:44
he was two and he was beginning to find
2:46
his voice it was a lot easier to potty
2:48
train him another sign that your toddler
2:52
is ready to be potty trained is that
2:54
they begin to actually tell you they're
2:56
telling you that they have either
2:58
already gone potty or that they have to
3:00
go potty or that their diaper or pull-up
3:02
it's wet if they're telling you that
3:05
they sorted their pamper then that's
3:07
another sign that they may be ready for
3:09
potty training because that means that
3:11
they know that they've gone potty and
3:13
then they're uncomfortable with it and
3:15
they can actually tell you so they're
3:17
stopping in the middle of their day no
3:18
matter what they have going on to let
3:20
you know that they have used their potty
3:21
and that's what you're going to need
3:23
when um you're potty training you're
3:25
going to need them to stop no matter
3:26
what they're doing to actually let you
3:28
know hey i have to go potty so that's
3:29
another important sign and then um one
3:32
of the other or the most um important
3:40
pants off and he was able to pull them
3:42
back up and the same goes for his pull
3:44
up he's able to pull his pull-up down
3:46
and then he's able to pull it back up
3:49
because that's something that's what
3:50
they're gonna need to know in order to
3:52
you know potty train that's not to say
3:53
that we can't teach them those things
3:55
but if they already know how to do these
3:57
things and that is just a sign that's
3:59
telling us that okay they're ready to be
4:03
those are some of the signs that noah
4:05
was displaying to us he was
4:07
communicating to us regularly in all
4:09
instances he communicated to us when he
4:12
has gone potty in his diaper or his
4:14
pull-up and he was able to undress
4:17
himself and then dress himself back so
4:20
those were the top three ways that we
4:22
knew noah was ready to be potty trained
4:25
and then he also stayed dry more often
4:29
through the day and even through the
4:31
night so what that we use and what did
4:36
um we did purchase a portable potty feed
4:39
and i will leave a link in the
4:40
description below to the one that we use
4:42
i believe that it was by summer and it
4:44
kind of just looks just like a regular
4:46
toilet it's not the fun playful ones
4:48
because we didn't want him to um think
4:50
it was a toy because noah will play with
4:52
it but we wanted him to know that he's
4:53
only supposed to go high and we wanted
4:55
it to resemble the actual toilet so i
4:58
will leave a link to that one below um
5:00
we used a portable potty seat so the one
5:02
that you sit on top of the actual toilet
5:06
underwear um flushable wipes a sticker
5:09
chart snacks and treats potty books a
5:12
disposable toilet cover and i will show
5:15
you guys that disinfectant wipes and um
5:22
we begin potty training these are the
5:24
books that we used so we use this one by
5:27
um daniel tiger's neighborhood
5:30
and this book is called potty time and
5:32
he really liked this book a lot and we
5:34
read it um a couple of days before we
5:36
began potty training and it just goes
5:38
through the motions of going potty
5:40
flushing the toilet and washing hands
5:42
and it plays music and sounds and it's
5:45
not a long book so that means that they
5:47
are going to be able to
5:49
get through this book without being
5:51
distracted and short enough that they
5:52
can even read it you know sitting on the
5:54
potty while going through the motions we
5:56
did the same thing with dino potty
5:59
and we got this one on amazon we got
6:01
them both off amazon actually no we got
6:03
this one from burlington
6:05
and this one from amazon and this is
6:07
dino potty learned to party with dino
6:10
and he liked this book and we read it
6:11
before we began potty training as well
6:15
these are the briefs that we use they
6:18
are mickey mouse brace because he likes
6:19
mickey mouse so we purchased these from
6:21
amazon and it came with about six in a
6:24
pack and we knew that he would really
6:26
like this because it had his favorite
6:28
character on it and then in addition we
6:30
also purchased the actual boxer grease
6:34
and these came with about six in a pack
6:36
as well and these are what we used to
6:45
going to be taking your toddler out in
6:47
public or taking him in places during
6:51
process so these are good to have
6:53
because you can slide them over the
6:55
actual underwear so that if they do have
6:58
an accident their clothes will stay dry
7:01
even though you'll have to remove this
7:03
and then change their underwear another
7:05
thing that we use when we were traveling
7:07
while potty training are
7:11
um these are the toilet covers so they
7:12
come in little packages like this and it
7:14
actually comes with quite a lot in the
7:16
package and this is how it looks so you
7:19
take it with you so that if you're in
7:21
public and you're out away from home you
7:24
can just put this little disposable
7:28
over the toilet and then you just go
7:30
ahead and set your toddler on top of
7:34
um you can also set them on top of the
7:38
potty seat and this is just helpful for
7:41
maintaining cleanliness so that you can
7:44
have your toddler sit on the potty when
7:47
they're out in public or on the toilet
7:49
when they're out in public and it's you
7:52
know just clean and then just have like
7:55
like a small pack of lysol wipes inside
7:57
of the little bag with you so that you
7:59
can just sanitize it and spray it down
8:01
and wipe it down put that in your bag
8:04
and then take it with you
8:07
so those are just a few of the things
8:09
that i had on hand to show you guys that
8:11
we use said the books and the traveling
8:14
necessities as well as the underpants
8:18
nappy covers and the toddler briefs that
8:21
we used while we were potty training him
8:23
so now we're just gonna go ahead and get
8:24
to what we actually did and i'm going to
8:27
break it up day by day so the things
8:30
that we did were gave him high praise we
8:34
utilized a reward system which was just
8:37
a skipper chart and some of his favorite
8:39
treats and then we carved out time where
8:42
we did literally nothing else like for
8:44
the first two to three days we sat in
8:46
one room or i followed him through the
8:49
house and we played you know together
8:51
and i didn't leave the home i didn't
8:53
tend to any major responsibilities i
8:56
pretty much just you know watched him
8:58
and played with him and really tried to
9:01
enforce this potty training system
9:04
the things that we did not do were fill
9:06
him up on liquid switch i know a lot of
9:08
people recommend that you do that this
9:10
is just one thing that we didn't do so
9:13
that we can actually learn what his
9:17
was we knew that if we were to fill him
9:19
up on a lot of liquids to try and
9:20
convince him to go potty we wouldn't
9:22
know how long he could actually hold his
9:24
bladder throughout the day
9:27
um on a normal eating and drinking
9:29
schedule so we didn't pick him up on
9:30
liquids we didn't discipline him if he
9:32
had any accidents and we did it to
9:34
utilize waking him up at night in the
9:36
middle of the night to go party we also
9:39
did not use pull-ups so
9:42
the day before we began potty training
9:44
we had to talk with him and we just let
9:46
him know that he's a big boy now we're
9:48
going to begin potty training the
9:50
diapers and pull-ups are going to go
9:52
and no more diapers no more pull-ups um
9:55
we showed him his potty chair which he
9:57
was already familiar with because again
9:58
we tried potty training him when he was
10:01
one years old but he just wasn't ready
10:02
when he was one year old so we
10:05
just stopped and we just took a break
10:07
because we didn't want to force on him
10:08
and we just didn't want to make it
10:09
stressful so he already was familiar
10:11
with his potty chair and we just showed
10:12
it to him and told him this is where
10:14
you're going to go potty now no more
10:16
diapers um and then we read those potty
10:19
books that i showed you guys and that
10:21
was the day before we began potty
10:23
on day one day one was bare bottom day
10:26
so when he woke up we took off his
10:29
diaper and we watched him and we didn't
10:32
put the pull-up back on we were using
10:37
um diapers they're kind of like a
10:38
pull-up in the diaper all in one so
10:41
when i say diaper or pull-up i'm just
10:42
referring to the same thing the pampers
10:44
360's cruisers um so again we removed it
10:48
and we never went back like we told him
10:51
no more diapers diapers are going to go
10:53
bye-bye and then we went and we tossed
10:55
them in the trash and we said bye-bye
10:56
diapers together so all day he went with
11:00
no bottoms at all no underwear no
11:01
diapers no pens just sucks and a t-shirt
11:06
and we threw it away throughout the week
11:07
throughout the day we just reminded him
11:10
um hey don't forget if you have to go
11:13
patty you do it here on your pie seat
11:15
don't forget if you have to go potty you
11:16
can tell mommy or you can tell daddy
11:18
that you have to go potty um whenever he
11:21
did go potty we praised him like highly
11:24
like we sang we jumped up and down and
11:26
we clapped and we gave him a sticker to
11:29
put on his sticker sheet and then we let
11:31
him pick a treat out of a bag so we just
11:34
put cookies we put candy
11:37
we put treats that he wouldn't normally
11:39
get on a normal day and we know um you
11:42
know like it's not good for him in the
11:45
but for this specific purpose as
11:48
personally we utilized those treats and
11:51
they were very helpful because again he
11:53
doesn't get them normally so he knew
11:55
that he's only going to get this from
12:00
so when it was time for him to take his
12:02
nap i was really nervous
12:03
so i didn't want to put him on any
12:05
pull-up or diaper so what i did was i
12:08
laid a towel down on the back and then
12:11
he just napped on the towel and he woke
12:13
up completely dry i was surprised and i
12:16
was super happy um and when he woke up
12:19
dry i told him like oh my goodness look
12:21
now like you stay dry you didn't wet the
12:23
bat let's get you sticker because you
12:25
did with the bed and let's get you a
12:27
so we gave him a treat when he woke up
12:29
dry from his nap and then at night
12:33
um we put him to sleep in his cloth
12:36
diaper so you can find cloth diapers on
12:38
amazon and i will leave a link in the
12:40
description box below but they look like
12:42
underwear um because we never really
12:45
utilized cloth diapers we tried them
12:47
when he was an infant and we didn't
12:50
um so for him a cloth diaper just wasn't
12:55
a diaper because he's used to the
12:56
disposable diapers so we used a cloth
12:58
diaper at night so that if he did have
12:59
an accident it would kind of absorb it
13:02
and we wouldn't have to wake him um in
13:04
the night to change the sheets and
13:08
but we just wanted to use it as you know
13:10
a safety precaution so we went we went
13:12
ahead and put him to sleep inside of his
13:14
we put him to sleep and his cloth diaper
13:17
and for day one we actually did wake him
13:20
in the middle of the night so we held
13:22
liquids two hours before bedtime
13:26
and then once he went to sleep about
13:28
five hours later into the night he was
13:30
still dry and i just couldn't sleep like
13:32
i was so worried i did wake him up and i
13:35
asked him if he had to go potty i sent
13:37
him on the potty and he went potty but
13:39
it was such a teeny amount like it was a
13:42
small amount and he was kind of upset he
13:45
went back to sleep easily but
13:48
honestly i just didn't feel like
13:50
inserting his sleep schedule just to
13:53
get him to go a teeny bit and that's not
13:56
something that i knew i wanted to do
13:57
regularly so after day one we never will
14:00
come in the night again day two was the
14:02
exact same thing day two was bare bottom
14:05
day as well no bottoms just a t-shirt
14:08
and socks no pants no diaper no
14:11
underwear the same thing we reminded him
14:13
to go party we asked him if he had to go
14:15
party we praised him when he had to go
14:17
potty we rewarded him after he went to
14:20
potty and then at night he slept with
14:25
but underwear so we didn't do the cloth
14:29
diaper instead we put him on the
14:32
underwear that we were going to have him
14:34
wear on day three he woke up the next
14:37
morning completely dry he didn't have
14:38
any accidents and let me also add in
14:43
and on day two he didn't have any
14:45
accidents he didn't go on the floor
14:48
um he didn't have any accidents he made
14:51
it to the potty every single time and i
14:55
did ask him very often
14:57
but honestly i don't think that i had to
15:00
um because he didn't have anything on
15:05
knew if he had to go potty he needed to
15:07
do it on his party scene so for day
15:10
three he woke up in his underwear and
15:12
they were completely dry when he woke up
15:15
i explained to him that we were gonna be
15:17
keeping the underwear on i gave him
15:20
praise for waking up dry for not wetting
15:22
his underwear and i made sure that i
15:26
you know explained like look your
15:29
underwear are dry and i said see feel it
15:31
they're dry wow that's good good thing
15:33
you know your underwear are dry that is
15:35
what we want let's get you a sticker
15:37
let's get you a treat
15:38
and then we left the underwear on
15:40
throughout the day day three
15:45
so he didn't understand that
15:49
he has to go potty when he has something
15:51
on his bottoms he didn't understand that
15:55
um you know he has an underwear i still
15:58
want him to go use it on his potty so
16:01
whenever he had to go he went in his
16:04
underwear and i just guess he didn't
16:06
mind being wet because he knew that i
16:09
would change his underwear if they were
16:12
so all of day three accidents all day
16:15
long that was regression day i think he
16:18
made it to the potty maybe
16:20
maybe twice honestly just twice besides
16:23
that um accidents multiple accidents
16:26
throughout the day but then he had a dry
16:28
night he slept through the night and
16:30
then he woke up dry and noah does sleep
16:32
eight to 12 hours through the night so
16:37
sometimes it's eight hours and then
16:38
sometimes just 12 hours and then
16:40
whichever hours he lack at night he just
16:42
gets in and out during the day so eight
16:44
to 12 hours is how long he's going
16:46
through the night without having any um
16:50
day one day two and day three
16:53
no accidents through the night day one
16:55
and two no accidents at all day three
16:57
accidents throughout the day no
16:59
accidents at night and this is when he
17:00
had on his underpants
17:04
i was really starting to become
17:05
discouraged because it was just a full
17:09
washing his underwear and watching his
17:10
underpants and after the first two days
17:13
of success i thought maybe i started
17:15
doing something wrong on day three but
17:17
that is not the case mommies so
17:19
don't get discouraged you just have to
17:23
on day four i had people asking me to
17:27
join them on an outing but i just knew
17:29
how important it was that i did not
17:32
break the cycle day four i still had not
17:34
left the house i mean we hadn't gone
17:36
anywhere i hadn't gone anywhere we
17:37
haven't done any things so that is
17:40
extremely important in this potty
17:42
training process because it's so easy to
17:44
get distracted and then you're you've
17:45
taken several steps back so you have to
17:47
run the course and if you're not able to
17:51
do so then try and explain to the person
17:54
who's going to be keeping your child you
17:58
your potty training and make sure you
18:00
give them the tools and resources and
18:01
knowledge that they need to do it when
18:06
um for day four underwear again and he
18:09
had a few accidents sometimes he went to
18:12
the potty and then sometimes he had
18:16
by evening it completely he stopped
18:19
having accidents um by evening of day
18:24
started going to the potty
18:26
even when he had his underwear on he
18:28
understood finally that you still have
18:32
and use the potty even when you have
18:35
something on your bottom and that day we
18:37
praised him like never before like we
18:39
gave him the highest praise that we've
18:41
given him throughout the entire process
18:44
and gave him treats and stickers and
18:46
rewards as well and after that he
18:49
continued to use the potty and silicon
18:52
instead of his underwear for the rest of
18:55
four and then again he had a dry night
18:58
so for day five day five was both
19:01
underwear and pants so he knew that he
19:03
needed to go to the potty when he didn't
19:05
have anything on his bottom he knew that
19:07
he had to go to the potty when he had on
19:09
his underwear and for day five we needed
19:11
to teach him that he also had to go
19:13
potty when he was fully dressed in jeans
19:16
or jogging pants shoes any of that so
19:19
for day five we put him on underwear and
19:23
jogging pants and socks and just fully
19:25
dressed him you know for the day like we
19:27
normally would and he did pretty good he
19:30
didn't have any accents that day he
19:32
continued to go potty again we just
19:35
remind him ask him praise him reward him
19:39
um and that continues to work throughout
19:41
day five and he stayed dry throughout
19:47
was a full outing day so now we need to
19:50
teach him that he's also gonna have to
19:52
go potty or tell us that he has to go
19:54
potty when we leave the house so we
19:56
actually had two baby showers to attend
19:57
to and a few errands to run so first i
20:01
let him go potty before we left the
20:03
house and i put him on his underwear and
20:07
i put his nappy cover on over it because
20:11
i was just a little worried and just to
20:14
try and make things easier i didn't want
20:15
him to wet his clothes if he did
20:20
so we had to go to the store the store
20:22
was only about five minutes away from
20:23
the house he would potty we dressed him
20:25
and then we went to the store five
20:28
minutes away we stayed there for about
20:29
10 minutes and then we had to attend the
20:31
baby shower and that was about a 25
20:34
minute drive he stayed dry for the full
20:37
car ride and then once we got inside of
20:39
the building i took him potty and we
20:44
um potty seat or the portable toilet
20:47
seat cover little lysol wipes and then
20:55
and then we used our lifestyle wipes and
20:58
we cleaned everything down we also took
21:00
flushable wipes and baby wipes we took
21:02
um like this like a small bottle of like
21:05
alcohol for disinfectant spray for the
21:09
um and he used the padding um and then
21:11
we you know attended to our event and
21:14
then right before we left we did the
21:16
same thing i took him to the potty and
21:18
he went potty and then we got in the car
21:20
and went to our second event was a 35
21:23
minute drive he stayed dry um for the
21:26
entire ride and once we got inside i
21:29
took and potty now when we got here
21:31
there were other children and a lot of
21:34
so i was very worried he actually gave
21:36
me some fuss and fight whenever i asked
21:38
him if he had to go potty because there
21:40
was more distraction for him so it's
21:44
very important if your child is
21:45
surrounded by a lot of um distractions
21:48
that you continue to remind them and
21:50
continue to enforce but you have to be
21:53
the person to remind them because they
21:56
may or may not tell you if they have to
21:59
go potty because they don't want to
22:00
actually stop doing what they're doing
22:02
if they're having a lot of fun and in
22:04
noah's case he was really enjoying
22:06
playing with the other children which he
22:08
doesn't normally have a chance to do
22:10
so he didn't really want to stop so he
22:14
gave me some fuss and some fight but we
22:16
made it to the potty and we stayed dry
22:18
before we left we went potty again and
22:21
then we drove home it was a 45 minute
22:23
drive home he stayed dry we put him in a
22:26
tub put him in his underwear
22:28
and he went to sleep and he had another
22:30
dry night so in the full
22:36
there was only one and a half day that
22:39
he had accidents day one and day two he
22:42
stayed completely dry throughout the day
22:44
and the night and those were very
22:45
violent days day three was regression
22:47
day he started to wear underwear but he
22:49
didn't understand that with his
22:50
underwear one he still needed to tell me
22:52
when he had to go potty he had multiple
22:54
accidents throughout the day and he
22:56
stayed dry through the night day four
22:58
was also underwear day and he had
23:01
multiple accidents throughout the first
23:03
half of the day and then he began to
23:04
stay dry throughout the evening and the
23:06
night on day five underwear and clothing
23:10
day we fully dressed him and he stayed
23:12
dry throughout the entire day as well as
23:15
the entire night and then on day six was
23:17
a full outing day when we completely
23:20
dressed him we utilized the
23:23
nappy covers which we actually didn't
23:25
need and he stayed dry throughout the
23:27
entire day and the entire night after
23:30
day six it was just complete success
23:32
thereafter after they he fully grasped
23:36
and he was officially potty trained we
23:38
didn't have any more accidents and we
23:40
just continued at least for the next two
23:43
weeks after that to just monitor him and
23:46
continue to remind him and continue to
23:49
praise him we didn't continue giving him
23:52
treats after day six we did utilize the
23:55
sticker truck for an additional week
23:58
but after that additional week we
24:00
removed the sticker chart as well and
24:02
continued to give him high praise for a
24:05
third week after that we kind of just
24:08
slowly just you know stopped giving him
24:11
high praise stop rewarding him stop
24:13
giving him treats even now months later
24:16
we still saw him when he does fight a
24:17
good job but we just don't over
24:19
exaggerate it as much and he's been
24:22
doing really really well um
24:25
so just some tips to remember is just to
24:27
be completely patient don't be
24:30
discouraged make sure that both you and
24:33
your child are ready for potty training
24:35
as opposed to just you and your child
24:38
isn't ready um make sure that you really
24:40
instill the routine at least the first
24:43
two to three days but if you can you
24:45
know really be able to do nothing else
24:48
for the entire week that's great if not
24:50
at least the first two to three days so
24:53
a weekend would be a great time to start
24:56
um make sure that you're getting your
24:57
toddler in a routine to go potty in the
25:00
morning once they awake
25:03
and also before nap time hold language
25:07
two hours before bedtime not necessarily
25:09
before nap time but definitely two hours
25:12
before that time so they can have some
25:14
time to empty out their tank and they're
25:16
not going through the night and just
25:18
don't forget to um stay positive
25:21
throughout the process because if you're
25:23
negative and if you're frustrated your
25:25
toddler will be negative and frustrated
25:26
as well accidents are going to happen
25:29
they're bound to happen but it's
25:31
important to just stay in control don't
25:34
lose control don't become frustrated
25:36
because if you do your toddler will as
25:39
so just run the course stay positive and
25:42
when you reach the fitness line make
25:44
sure that you congratulate yourself as
25:46
well yes your child has completed an
25:50
amazing milestone they wouldn't have
25:52
been able to do without you so make sure
25:55
that you really just take some time to
25:56
reflect on that because it's important
25:58
that although we're rewarding our
26:00
children we must also reward ourselves
26:03
because it's important and it's going to
26:04
give us the strength and the courage
26:06
that we need to complete every milestone
26:11
again these are just some of the things
26:14
that we did the routine and the process
26:15
that we followed in potty training our
26:19
with every child with every family with
26:22
every mama it's gonna be different but
26:25
if you're just looking for a good place
26:26
to start then i recommend trying some of
26:29
these tips and just tailoring them to
26:31
what works best for you in the beginning
26:33
i had no idea what i was doing i did
26:35
some research and then i kind of just
26:37
formed a routine that would be best for
26:39
myself and for noah and i encourage you
26:42
guys to do the same thing try these tips
26:45
try some other tips that you get from
26:47
other mamas or from some books or from
26:49
some online resources and just tailor it
26:51
to you and your son or your daughter and
26:54
your family's need if you found this
