0:50

0:52
getting into the homeschool things I am
0:55
sharing my review of the good and the
0:58
Beautiful kindergarten care culum math
1:01
and language arts as well as handwriting
1:04
this is going to be a brief overview of
1:07
what the curriculum was like for me my
1:10
own personal experience and of course my
1:12
own personal um you know review of it my
1:15
son is 4 years old so that just gives
1:18
you an idea of like where he currently
1:20
was like in like his stage of learning
1:24
skill and development one thing I really
1:25
loved is that it pretty much came with
1:27
everything you need for the most part
1:29
the only additional items that I needed
1:31
to purchase for this curriculum was like
1:32
a few arts and craft things like a craft
1:36
knife glue scissors crayons um markers
1:40
you know things like that nothing too
1:43
extra and a whiteboard they want you to
1:45
have a whiteboard but you can use like a
1:48
personal size whiteboard that just your
1:49
child can use or you can use you know
1:52
the one you put on the wall we have both
1:54
so a whiteboard was needed as well um
1:58
chalk here and there and sticky notes
2:01
but at the beginning of the curriculum
2:03
you can just look it'll tell you
2:05
everything you need so it doesn't sneak
2:07
up on you and then it'll remind you at
2:09
the beginning of each unit everything
2:10
that you needed the curriculum itself is
2:14
free math and language arts is
2:16
completely free if you want to download
2:18
it for use I personally thought that it
2:21
was much easier less time consuming for
2:24
me to purchase the curriculum I did end
2:27
up printing half the curriculum before I
2:29
realized should have just bought it
2:31
because I had to get the books binded of
2:35
course and then I also needed the
2:39
booster books and the booster cards and
2:42
I didn't like the quality like the print
2:44
quality of just printing off the books
2:46
and cards you know you obviously you can
2:48
work with it but it wasn't the best and
2:51
trying to figure out how to assemble
2:52
those booklets just wasn't the best for
2:55
me so I ended up having to buy them and
2:58
after purchasing the books and boo
2:59
booster cards separately I literally
3:02
should have just got the whole
3:04
curriculum together you save money when
3:07
you buy the booster books and the
3:08
booster carts with the actual language
3:10
or curriculum itself as opposed to if
3:13
you bought a separate so because I did
3:16
everything like separate it ended up
3:18
being more expensive for me so unless
3:20
you're going to print everything and not
3:23
purchase anything off the website you
3:26
save more money getting it all together
3:28
so that was my mistake the math also
3:31
comes with the math box so the same
3:34
thing if you decide to print the math
3:35
you don't get that box that it comes
3:37
with I guess you don't need those items
3:39
if you already have certain items like
3:41
it's just like counting sticks wooden
3:43
number blocks and little wooden cars it
3:48
didn't come with money which inside the
3:50
curriculum you do need coins and it told
3:53
me that it was in the box but it wasn't
3:55
maybe the newer versions include that
3:57
but my set didn't use that so I had to
4:00
go around the house and find as many
4:01
coins as I can and add them to the box
4:03
so we probably did have the items around
4:05
like a wooden car wooden C sticks number
4:10
um like wooden number blocks with like
4:12
plus equal signs and the numbers we had
4:15
that stuff around so we didn't
4:17
necessarily need the box but if you
4:18
don't have it then it's better to just
4:20
purchase the curriculum off the website
4:22
so that you get that stuff or don't have
4:24
to go out and buy that stuff handwriting
4:25
curriculum was pretty straightforward
4:27
just 100 lessons and you can do a page a
4:31
day and finish it up within like 3
4:33
months or so or 3 and a half months the
4:35
math and language arts also has about
4:37
120 lessons each so everything kind of
4:40
lines up to where you can finish all
4:42
three at the same time overall I do love
4:44
the curriculum I love it everything that
4:46
he was supposed to learn he did learn
4:49
even at four years old doing that
4:51
kindergarten curriculum we did do the
4:53
kindergarten like the prek curriculum
4:55
before we started and I think that that
4:57
is very essential as well as those
4:59
booster I think that they are very
5:00
essential as well there are some things
5:02
that they tell you you must have
5:03
mastered before you even begin the
5:05
curriculum at one point within the
5:07
language RS curriculum we did have to SL
5:09
down a little bit and we had to
5:11
supplement with hooked on phic and
5:14
Elemental finic for him to really really
5:17
grasp reading certain words a lot easier
5:19
because he would hesitate a lot with
5:21
reading but again he's for so maybe that
5:24
wouldn't be the case for an older child
5:25
or maybe it would I don't know but
5:27
adding that supplemental work into do it
5:30
made it a lot easier for him some of the
5:32
things that were difficult for him in
5:33
the beginning of the curriculum now that
5:35
we're towards the end they are much much
5:37
easier for instance the booster books
5:39
that it comes with they follow along the
5:41
curriculum so whatever lesson or concept
5:45
you are learning at the moment the
5:48
booster cards and the booster books
5:50
follows along that so if you just
5:52
finished learning the ending ing or if
5:55
you just finished learning letter
5:58
blending then the booster cards would be
6:00
going over letter blending before you
6:02
start the lesson and then the booster
6:04
books would have stories with letter
6:07
blending in it to read after the lesson
6:10
so everything kind of just goes together
6:12
and what I really love the most is that
6:14
it also has the games in the app that
6:18
you can let your child do outside of
6:20
actual homeschool hours so if you know
6:22
that there's something that your kid
6:23
wants or needs practice with then you
6:26
can allow them to do those tablet games
6:28
the interactive game
6:30
are great to have on hand so that you're
6:32
not searching for interactive things
6:34
within YouTube because then you don't
6:36
even have to mess around with YouTube at
6:37
all which is great because YouTube is
6:41
something completely different so I like
6:43
that he had those games to keep him busy
6:45
give him some extra practice and things
6:47
like that there were three units for
6:50
Math and three units for language arts
6:53
handwriting I can't remember if it had
6:54
two or three units each unit had an
6:58
assessment at end of it a reading
7:00
assessment that was
7:02
timed as well as you know an assessment
7:05
over everything like all of the concepts
7:08
that were covered for reading language
7:10
arts and math so I loved the assessments
7:13
basically it gives you peace of mind of
7:15
where your child is if they are on
7:17
tasked for where they should be for the
7:19
curriculum if they are ahead if they are
7:21
behind for instance a reading assessment
7:23
for the end of unit 3 might say your
7:25
child should be able to read this
7:27
paragraph Within 1 and A2 to 2 and 1/2
7:31
minutes with no more than four mistakes
7:32
so if your child is reading it closer to
7:35
like 1 minute or closer to the one and
7:37
A2 they may be a little bit Advanced if
7:39
they're reading it over the 2 and 1/2
7:42
they might be a little bit behind but if
7:44
they're right between 1 and A2 and 2 and
7:45
a half then they're right where they
7:47
should be so that gives you an idea of
7:49
where they are expected to be and it
7:51
lets you know on your end as the homes
7:53
School parent or teacher what you need
7:56
to do everything is in one book so they
7:58
had some GI graphy some poetry some Arts
8:02
literature reading spelling all wrapped
8:05
up inside of one curriculum so that you
8:07
didn't have a bunch of different
8:09
booklets for you know all of those
8:11
different topics and then some of the
8:13
geography lessons were in the app some
8:15
of the spelling lessons were in the app
8:17
and things like that so that it was a
8:18
little more interactive they also had
8:20
little activities which some people are
8:22
not F of some people think that the good
8:24
and the Beautiful activities are like
8:25
fluff things that slow you down if you
8:27
don't want to do that you can just not
8:29
to it sometimes depending on the type of
8:31
date we're having we would skip it and
8:34
sometimes you know if I felt like he
8:36
needs something a little more fun we
8:39
would actually do it the lessons were
8:41
not very long like they were short
8:44
enough that if you didn't want to do the
8:46
activity you could just do the lesson
8:48
and then do your own activity afterwards
8:51
because they were short enough to where
8:52
you still had time left in the day to
8:54
you know do some interactive and
8:57
Hands-On Life Application skills and
9:00
activities in physical education with
9:02
your kid on your own which you know I
9:05
recommend that we should do anyway just
9:07
come up with fun activities that would
9:09
we would incorporate with the lessons
9:10
and sometimes they would have nothing to
9:12
do with the lessons they're just meant
9:13
to be fun learning activities starting
9:15
off we did one language arts and one
9:18
math lesson and then we got to the point
9:20
where we could do two language arts two
9:22
math lessons some days we wouldn't touch
9:24
math at all we would only do two
9:26
language arts and then some days we
9:27
would just do two math you can split it
9:29
up however you want to split it up but
9:32
with there being 120 lessons you can
9:35
still finish that up in about 6 months
9:38
of a school year so it gives you some
9:40
flexibility to where if for whatever
9:43
reason you needed to take some time off
9:45
for Christmas break spring break
9:48
Thanksgiving or if life just happens you
9:51
wouldn't quite exactly fall behind you
9:53
don't have to feel like they're lacking
9:55
anything because at the end of it my son
9:58
was very much more dance than he was
10:01
when he started he can now read short
10:04
books recognize so many more words site
10:06
words and sounding things out and
10:08
Concepts um it's really amazing to see
10:11
how far he has come within six months so
10:13
I'm really proud of him took a lot of
10:15
time off especially during like my first
10:17
trimester of pregnancy pretty sure we
10:19
almost took my entire first trimester
10:22
off and we still have finished right
10:24
around Springtime so that's really great
10:27
and my son really liked the math care
10:29
gum I don't know exactly how much I like
10:32
it I'm still trying to decide how I like
10:34
the math he got all the concepts he's
10:37
doing really really well with it there
10:39
were a lot of Concepts money telling
10:43
time addition subtraction division
10:46
counting by twos counting by 10 counting
10:49
by fives even versus odd two dimensional
10:52
shapes three dimensional shapes
10:54
measurements like inches and ctim weight
10:58
which one is heavier
10:59
less plus more so many different
11:03
concepts which I love that because there
11:06
are so many Concepts nothing is focused
11:09
on for a very large amount of time so
11:12
maybe these Concepts you will still
11:15
continue to focus on in first grade
11:18
curriculum and then some of them even
11:20
though I feel like he's mastered it I'm
11:21
pretty much just hoping he doesn't
11:23
forget it so as long as it's continued
11:25
throughout first grade then I don't feel
11:26
like he's going to be like forgetting it
11:28
books they tell you to purchase like
11:30
they tell you that it's optional it's
11:33
like the my first reader my first nature
11:35
reader my first Africa reader it's
11:38
optional but I think that they're
11:39
necessary my son enjoyed reading those a
11:42
lot better than reading the individual
11:44
books we're now going back and reading
11:46
the individual books now that we're done
11:49
he read through them with the curriculum
11:51
and they were a little difficult for him
11:53
to grasp but the actual nature Reader
11:56
book was easier but now that we're done
11:58
he can can now go through those booster
12:01
books again and read them a lot faster
12:03
one night he read me eight books at once
12:05
when he used to struggle to get through
12:07
one book during the curriculum So
12:09
eventually he did grasp it but I say use
12:12
those booster books over and over and
12:14
over again because reading is just
12:16
something that you get better at with
12:18
repetition for sure the curriculum
12:19
itself was a really great curriculum I
12:21
was very happy with the curriculum I
12:22
don't have anything negative to say
12:25
about it I still wish that there was a
12:27
little bit more
12:30
like Christian Concepts in it of course
12:32
you are going to supplement with that if
12:34
that is something you're looking for to
12:36
teach your little one I feel like they
12:38
should write their name at the top of
12:40
every single page and lesson but that
12:42
was nowhere inside of the language arts
12:45
or math curriculum it was only in the
12:47
handwriting booklet in just every few
12:51
pages or so not on every page so I think
12:53
that they need to incorporate name
12:55
writing on every page of like maybe math
12:58
and language arts
12:59
my personal opinion I think it's
13:01
important we write our name at the top
13:02
of everything they also had some life
13:04
skills stuff where you had to remember
13:06
phone numbers you had to remember your
13:07
address and that was great overall I
13:10
really still loved it it's a beautiful
13:12
curriculum very easy to follow even my
13:15
four-year-old to catch on to and master
13:17
and enjoy it we never felt like it was a
13:20
hassle or anything like that we enjoyed
13:22
the curriculum we are going to continue
13:24
using the good and the Beautiful
13:25
curriculum because I think that they
13:27
teach him the concepts he needs to know
13:28
plus so much more without making it too
13:31
hard and that is the best part that's
13:34
what we look for we want them to learn
13:35
everything that they can learn maybe
13:37
even a lot more but we still want it to
13:39
be very easy to follow and interactive
13:41
and that is what the good and the
13:42
Beautiful does well for the summer we
13:44
are definitely going to switch over to
13:46
the horizons curriculum we're going to
13:48
go through the kindergarten curriculum
13:49
for the horizons as review which is
13:53
reading and finic math and health and
13:57
it's a huge
14:00
set but we're going to do that that's
14:02
what we're going to be working on for
14:03
the remainder of this year we're going
14:05
to start in May and we're going to work
14:07
on that all the way through December
14:10
January we will begin the the good and
14:12
the Beautiful first grade curriculum and
14:14
we plan to finish that up by June of
14:17
next year maybe sooner than June but as
14:20
long as we are finished with that by
14:22
next summer I'll be fine I always do
14:24
these reviews only because he's so young
14:27
it can be a bit early to be finishing up
14:30
a kindergarten curriculum five could be
14:32
a bit early to be starting first grade I
14:34
don't know so I just always want to make
14:36
sure that he is actually really grasping
14:38
these things because it could be easier
14:41
for an older child to catch on to these
14:43
Concepts and even though he is catching
14:45
on to them I mean exceedingly well I
14:48
just want to be sure that you know it's
14:50
something is going to stick for him I
14:51
don't want the first grade curriculum to
14:53
be difficult for him I want to make sure
14:55
that once we begin first grade it's
14:57
going to be easy for him to you know
14:59
jump into not very difficult because he
15:02
didn't spend a lot of time in the
15:04
kindergarten or because he was young you
15:08
know things like that if you've seen any
15:10
of my other Vlogs you've seen some of
15:11
the walkthrough videos of us doing the
15:14
lessons with the good and the Beautiful
15:15
we've been doing it for months now but
15:17
I'm still going to show you some of the
15:18
stuff that we were actually doing in the
15:19
book list so you guys can just see what
15:21
it looks like and of course if you are
15:24
going through the good and the Beautiful
15:25
curriculum with me especially
15:27
kindergarten first grade you know young
15:29
early Learners give this video a thumbs
15:32
up we can do this together you know
15:35
that's something we have in comment and
15:37
comment below your favorite thing about
15:38
the good and the Beautiful curriculum
15:40
itself that is the Simply Good and
15:42
beautiful math level K Cris book and
15:46
then
15:49
the
15:50
manipulated that it comes with now this
15:54
is the second half of the language arts
15:57
literature level cave course book that I
15:59
printed out um and I had to print it out
16:02
in two books because they only had
16:03
binding big enough to split it in half
16:06
this way but it covered phonics writing
16:08
reading grammar and punctuation spelling
16:10
literature geography and art and just
16:14
like the math it gives you an idea of
16:17
the things that you need to do before
16:19
each unit so lessons 1 through 40 was
16:21
unit one so here our second book we
16:24
started at unit 40 for unit 2 it tells
16:26
you the spelling words and things that
16:28
you'll be working on with the letter
16:29
towels app so you would need the letter
16:31
towels app and the good and the
16:33
Beautiful Homes school app story
16:36
sequence tracing writing all of that
16:39
good stuff it also has like chapter
16:42
stories which was really fun to go
16:44
through with him basically a lot of
16:46
reading and some spelling of course the
16:48
activities that they throw in there that
16:51
you can do that's optional again when
16:53
you start a new unit it tells you
16:55
everything that you would need so a
16:57
little bit more than what you would eat
16:58
for the math the spelling words that
17:00
you'll be working on everything that
17:02
you'll be going over for instance
17:04
punctuation fluency literature
17:06
preciation comparing contrast stories
17:08
and characters respectful conversation
17:10
rhyming reading unfamiliar words
17:13
capitalization rules poetry and
17:15
memorization arts and geography parts of
17:18
a book nouns verbs plurals categories
17:22
antonyms oral
17:23
narration um and then these are some of
17:26
the spelling word Concepts so the th
17:28
sound the sh sound the CH sound the e
17:31
sound and these are the booster cards
17:34
that you are going to be working through
17:36
so site word practice reading words with
17:40
phonograms um reading words with
17:42
inflectional endings like Ed and ing
17:46
suff suffixes and preix prefixes um so
17:49
it gives you everything in here that
17:52
basically you're going to need these are
17:53
the nature readers that are optional to
17:56
purchase I highly recommend that get
17:59
them because I like them more than the
18:01
Boer books which looked like this this
18:06
is book 10 were pretty
18:08
small easy to follow but for whatever
18:11
reason we enjoyed the nature Reader
18:14
Books a bit more
18:17
which looked like a large I guess
18:20
chapter book kind of but I think it's
18:22
the size of it that made us like a bit
18:24
more as well as the texture of the pages
18:26
easier to turn the pages one line on
18:30
each page made it a lot easier to read
18:34
through the pictures are bigger as
18:36
opposed to multiple lines on one tiny
18:39
page one line on a larger page was
18:42
easier for him to follow than many lines
18:44
on a smaller page if that makes sense
18:46
and then the page were kind of like
18:48
silky smooth which made it difficult to
18:50
turn versus the rougher texture of this
18:54
one so that's how I felt about the
18:57
nature readers and the booster books by
19:02
the end of the unit needed to read this
19:06
size paragraph so not too big a few site
19:10
words in there and he needed to read it
19:13
within under 2 and 1/2 minutes so 1 and
19:15
a/2 to 2 and 1/2 minutes and he read it
19:18
in just about almost 2 minutes and he
19:20
missed one word and they couldn't miss
19:22
any more than four words to be on track
19:24
was like I said a pretty good curriculum
19:27
overall we did at some point supplement
19:30
with elemental phics levels one and two
19:33
which helps him get those sounds just
19:36
because the pages are bigger that was
19:39
his thing
19:41
this is the booster card that you would
19:46
go through it tells you how to use the
19:48
booster cards and some things to master
19:51
before starting the course which was
19:54
short vowels the alphabet Beginning
19:57
Sounds and
19:59
letter blending of two letters so
20:06
like stuff like that which is what was
20:09
also
20:10
covered in this Elemental PHX except
20:14
bigger um and one lesson just had five
20:19
sounds on it so this was larger and much
20:22
easier for him to grasp and catch on to
20:26
than this size that was a little more
20:28
bunched up and I don't know I guess it
20:30
looked a little more intimidating than
20:33
this one page I did love the pyramid
20:36
reading 50 reading cards versus 120
20:40
lessons so that is not bad at all it's
20:44
not too much of a hassle and too much
20:46
extra practice that you have to really
20:48
do so that is what you know that looks
20:51
like one thing that I must say I really
20:54
dislike about this handwriting course is
20:56
that we always have the problem where
20:58
the covers break or come off or
21:00
something it's pretty flimsy and also
21:02
pretty small but um it was some pretty
21:06
basic stuff so it had three sections of
21:09
like coloring drawing pictures tracing
21:13
letters numbers as well I mean it was
21:16
pretty easy to you know follow along and
21:20
do and I think it is something that you
21:22
definitely want to have but I just don't
21:25
like I don't like the size of it it's
21:27
just too small in my opinion but you
21:29
know all right you guys that sums up my
21:32
personal experience and review I guess
21:34
you can say my thoughts of the good in
21:35
the beautiful curriculum review language
21:38
arts math and handwriting overall I
21:41
loved the curriculum and I will be using
21:43
it again of course with any curriculum
21:45
there are going to be a few things that
21:47
you are not very fond of or a few
21:50
changes that you want but I still love
21:53
the curriculum overall as a whole and my
21:56
son is doing great with it so as long as
21:58
he is thriving with it we will continue
22:00
to use it and if we ever have to
22:01
supplement I am okay with supplementing
22:03
where needed so those are my thoughts
22:06
let me know what you guys think of the
22:07
good and the Beautiful curriculum I hope
22:09
that you guys enjoyed this video and
22:10
found it to be helpful if you are
22:11
considering purchasing that curriculum
22:13
just give you an idea of what to expect
22:16
how many lessons how long it takes to
22:18
complete how easy it is to grasp and you
22:20
know catch on with I hope it was helpful
22:22
for you in that way and again if you are
