for the past six years I have been
0:02
preparing a full Thanksgiving feast for
0:04
my family all by myself and over the
0:06
years I have found a few tips and tricks
0:08
that makes preparing Thanksgiving dinner
0:10
just a little bit easier so that on
0:12
Thanksgiving Day I can actually enjoy
0:14
spending time with my family instead of
0:17
being tired and overwhelmed from being
0:19
in the kitchen and cooking all day and
0:21
all my feet so today I'm going to be
0:23
sharing with you how I pet for
0:25
Thanksgiving dinner
0:27
thank you

0:35
hello and welcome my name is heaven I am
0:37
a stay-at-home mom and wife I have a
0:39
three-year-old toddler boy named noon
0:40
Jay and here I blog about all things
0:42
motherhood and lifestyle I create
0:44
helpful realistic and relatable content
0:46
for you all so if that's something that
0:48
you're into definitely subscribe to my
0:50
channel I post twice weekly and I would
0:52
love to have you here but let's go ahead
0:54
and get into today's video the goal is
0:57
that you all will be watching this on
0:59
Thanksgiving day so that maybe you can
1:01
kind of just play it in the background
1:03
while you prep your dinner as well so
1:05
it'll kind of just be like we're cooking
1:07
together kind of like a daily life Cook
1:09
With Me video and we can spend a little
1:10
bit of time together for the holiday I
1:13
am also hoping that this video will give
1:15
you some helpful insight on how you can
1:17
make prepping for Holiday dinners a
1:19
little bit easier in your life as well
1:21
so first let me go ahead and just give
1:23
you the rundown on what's going to be on
1:26
our holiday spread so we're going to be
1:28
doing a ham two Cornish hens greens
1:33
dressing mac and cheese two pans of yams
1:36
one from my home one for my mom's two
1:39
sweet potato pies one for my home one
1:41
for my mom homemade yeast dinner rolls
1:44
and a three flavored pound cake it is
1:46
Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving
1:48
and it's already a little bit late in
1:51
the day it's two o'clock so I kind of
1:52
got a late start but that's okay all
1:55
right so I went ahead and put my hair up
1:57
into a ponytail because I don't think my
1:59
family will appreciate hair in the food
2:01
and in the past I have never used like
2:03
recipes I've always just cooked based on
2:05
like memory and kind of just looking and
2:08
tasting but whenever someone asks me for
2:10
my recipe I don't have one my husband
2:13
hasn't even mentioned that sometimes
2:15
like he will notice that the food will
2:16
taste a little bit different it'll still
2:18
taste good but he said he will notice
2:20
that it's not like consistent every year
2:23
so so that I can kind of just have a
2:26
recipe that I'll use every year so that
2:28
I can create some consistency and so
2:30
that I can pass these recipes down to my
2:32
children and my grandchildren one day I
2:34
decided to go ahead and create like a
2:36
little recipe book so I purchased this
2:38
little box from Michael's it looks like
2:40
a book
2:42
and then I can just open it up and I can
2:44
place my recipe cards inside of them so
2:47
that I'll have this little recipe book
2:50
that's actually a box with all of my
2:52
recipes inside of it right now the oven
2:55
is preheating to 425 because I'm going
2:57
to put my sweet potatoes in there and
3:00
let them bake for an hour so that once
3:02
they come out they'll be able to cool
3:05
off and then I also have a pot here so
3:09
that I can start cooking my pasta
3:11
noodles and I'm also going to be
3:12
preparing the meats that I'm putting in
3:14
the dressing and the green but I'll
3:16
explain everything like as I'm going so
3:18
let's go ahead and just get set up here
3:21
on the countertop so I'm gonna go ahead
3:23
and just get started so I got a bunch of
3:26
sweet potatoes here on the counter and
3:29
I'm just gonna go ahead and just rinse
3:30
them off and then I'm going to pierce
3:32
them so that I can put them in the oven
3:33
all right so I'm going to be using two
3:35
pounds of sweet potatoes so I just put
3:37
it on my scale and this is
3:39
2.25 pounds so because US every year the
3:43
yams will range in size you don't know
3:45
if you're going to be needing two or
3:47
three sweet potatoes so I always weigh
3:50
them to be either two pounds of sweet
3:52
potatoes or two cups of pureed sweet
3:54
potatoes I'm just piercing a few holes
3:56
in it to help it bake a little bit
3:58
faster and I'm gonna put several of them
4:01
in here I can just boil these on the
4:04
stove but I prefer to bake them
4:08
fact
4:10
pasta is on the stove and I'm gonna let
4:12
that come into a boil and then after it
4:15
comes to a boil then I'm going to let it
4:18
boil on low until it's Al Dente which is
4:23
not fully cooked but almost cooked in
4:26
the morning when it's time for me to
4:27
bake my Mac and Cheese all I have to do
4:29
is take out the Al Dente noodles which
4:31
I'm going to store in the fridge
4:32
overnight just take them out pour them
4:34
in a pan and then just add like the milk
4:36
the egg and cheese and the seasonings
4:38
and things like that so that that's one
4:40
step I don't have to do in the morning I
4:41
can have fresh mac and cheese made
4:43
tomorrow but I'm cutting down that time
4:46
by preparing the pasta ahead of time I'm
4:49
also going to make my dinner rolls today
4:52
and then I'm going to store them away
4:55
overnight in the morning I just have to
4:57
put them back into the oven and let them
5:00
warm up okay so I gotta take off my
5:02
wedding ring so I don't get dough in it
5:16
okay so I'm gonna go ahead and start
5:18
prepping the dinner rolls and while I'm
5:19
doing that since this is a day in the
5:21
life I'm gonna just go ahead and update
5:23
you all on how my morning went and how I
5:25
got here to this point so we woke up
5:27
around 8 30 Noah and I and we kind of
5:30
just sat around in the bed for a little
5:32
while and then after we got out of the
5:35
bed it was like freezing in the house so
5:38
we kind of just drank some hot cocoa and
5:40
we had some coffee and we just sat in
5:42
the bed and we watched some of like
5:44
Noah's cartoons until we were like fully
5:46
awake so since the kids are out of
5:48
school for Thanksgiving break we just
5:51
decided to go ahead and use today as a
5:52
break day as well because I could really
5:54
use some extra time prepping for
5:56
Thanksgiving dinner so we just read some
5:58
books this morning while we were in bed
6:00
and then I got up and we got our day
6:02
started snow went downstairs with my
6:05
husband because I had to go out and tour
6:08
this facility that I want to use for my
6:13
husband's 30th birthday I had to go loud
6:16
and tour this facility and just run a
6:18
few like shopping errands and things
6:20
like that and I got there and realized
6:22
after touring the facility that I had
6:24
left my wallet so I didn't have my
6:26
license I didn't have my money or
6:28
anything so I told the lady I will come
6:30
right back I came home and I was looking
6:32
for you know all of those things
6:36
only to realize that the whole time it
6:38
actually was in the car with me in the
6:40
passenger seat but it was like buried
6:41
under a bunch of my husband's stuff in
6:44
my passenger seat of my truck so
6:47
that was annoying but nevertheless I
6:51
went out and got the things that I
6:52
needed to get done done and then came
6:56
back home and made some lunch and here I
7:01
am now having food for Thanksgiving
7:04
tomorrow so all I'm doing is mixing in
7:07
six tablespoons of softened unsalted
7:11
butter with a fourth cup of sugar until
7:15
it's like well combined just sugar and
7:18
butter
7:21
I am flying or deep down by the sea
7:28
anywhere we wish to be
7:33
when we're loved we're happy all right
7:38
so the bread is already starting to rise
7:40
and it still has about 40 more minutes
7:42
to go and the sweet potatoes have about
7:45
10 minutes left and I just placed all of
7:49
my pork on the stove to cook so this is
7:53
going inside of my greens but I have to
7:55
just cook it first so that tomorrow all
7:57
I need to do is throw it in the green so
7:59
I'm gonna cook it and chop it tonight
8:01
and then tomorrow I'll throw it inside
8:03
of the greens
8:05
time to shine a brighter light in a
8:10
world
8:11
time for Unity and peace
8:17
come and see how great we can be come
8:23
together
8:24
we're all family
8:29
come together
8:30
we're all family

11:58
the rows have finished Rising so I'm
12:01
gonna go ahead and put these in the oven
12:02
and I have already began peeling the
12:05
sweet potatoes
12:06
um so I have about two more to peel and
12:09
then I'll go ahead and start chopping
12:10
those up these are all my potatoes so I
12:12
got a bowl of them here and I'm just
12:15
gonna go ahead and chop them up and then
12:17
place them back into the bowl so that
12:19
they can soak in some water and then I'm
12:22
going to thread them away for tomorrow
12:25
I know a lot of people they choose to
12:27
just boil their
12:28
yams or sweet potatoes before they like
12:32
cut them or peel them or even bake them
12:35
because it's easier to peel them and
12:37
easier to cut them when you boil them
12:40
first but
12:43
um like I mentioned this earlier I don't
12:44
know I just like to do mines this way it
12:48
preserves some of the flavor and then
12:51
when you go to bake them
12:53
it will have more time in the oven to
12:56
kind of just like soak up all
12:59
[Music]
13:01
it's like the difference between
13:05
something on high heat I will choose to
13:08
slow cook it every time so if you boil
13:11
the sweet potatoes first then you know
13:13
everything goes faster peeling cutting
13:16
baking but I feel like you just put some
13:21
love and some tenderloin hair and
13:24
it just it comes out so much better so
13:27
half of these potatoes are gonna be for
13:28
home and then the other half is going to
13:31
go to my grandmother's house my mom and
13:35
my grandmother are cooking there so I'm
13:37
going to take them some rolls some sweet
13:39
potato pie and some yams all right so
13:43
that golden brown color that I'm looking
13:44
for so I'm going to melt some honey
13:46
butter and then I'm gonna brush some
13:49
honey butter across these and then take
13:51
them out of the pan and set them on a
13:52
cooling rack to cool
13:54
all right so I got a bigger bowl here
13:58
for the yams so they're all in this big
14:00
bowl here and then I mixed the macaroni
14:04
in with a little bit of olive oil and
14:06
then here I have the greens that I
14:09
cleaned and already like tore up into
14:12
small pieces off of the stem and I
14:14
actually have them in cold water inside
14:16
of this little bag here

[Music]

14:52
[Music]
15:21

15:22
at this point I am pretty much just
15:25
cleaning up my mess and getting ready to
15:28
prepare for dinner like dinner for today
15:31
but I have my pie in the oven and I have
15:34
my cake just sitting here
15:37
waiting for the pie to come out of the
15:39
oven so once the pie comes out the oven
15:40
then I'll put my cake in the oven and
15:42
then I'll be done prepping for the night
15:44
down in here I put the greens in there
15:46
with the rest of the vegetables there
15:48
are the greens too it's like all the
15:50
other vegetables so that I chopped up so
15:53
they're in there these are the rose the
15:59
pasta those are the yams and they're
16:02
still in cold water and then back there
16:04
that's the meat that cooled off on the
16:06
neck bones and the ham hocks besides
16:09
that the pasta is ready for the macaroni
16:10
and cheese all I have to do is add in
16:12
like all the dairy items and then bake
16:15
it in the oven and let the cheese melt
16:17
and let everything stick together and
16:19
then the meat is up for the greens and
16:21
the greens are clean and I soaked them
16:24
so first I scrubbed them like I
16:26
literally scrubbed them like this in
16:28
between my hands each Leaf one by one
16:30
and then I peel them off the stem break
16:33
them up and then I washed them like this
16:35
in warm water and vinegar like I'm
16:38
washing like hand washing clothes or
16:39
something and I just kind of like twirl
16:41
them around and wash them like this and
16:43
then I soak them inside of like cool
16:46
water and vinegar for a little while and
16:48
then I rinse them and then I do it again
16:51
and then rinse them one more time and
16:53
then I store them in cool water inside
16:55
the fridge so there's still kind of
16:57
soaking overnight tomorrow I'll strain
16:59
them again rinse them through again and
17:00
all it has to do is toss them inside of
17:03
a stock pot with like some chicken stock
17:04
I'm gonna saute the vegetables that I've
17:06
already chopped up hospitals in there as
17:08
well and then add in the meat that I
17:10
already cooked I'm glad that I was able
17:11
to get a hair start today and I feel
17:13
that tomorrow I'll be done cooking very
17:15
very early I'm ready to go ahead and get
17:17
it done and just enjoy the holiday so I
17:20
hope that you guys enjoyed you know this
17:22
kind of like Thanksgiving prep with me
17:24
and just spending like the day with me
17:26
like a real raw realistic and up for
17:28
today like I got all of these baggy like
17:31
little households that I got like
17:32
flowers blotches all over like you can
17:35
literally hear my husband downstairs
17:36
yelling on the video game so this is a
17:38
very real and raw realistic Day in the
17:40
Life I'm just prepping for Thanksgiving
17:42
so I'm gonna go ahead and cut this video
17:44
here because I have to go ahead and get
17:46
myself cleaned up and I have to edit
17:48
this video if I want to get it out by
17:50
tomorrow on Thanksgiving I'll just be
17:52
popping in on like the community Tab and
17:55
just sharing a post wishing you guys all
17:57
a Happy Thanksgiving and I'm just hoping
17:59
that you all get to spend it with family
18:01
and break bread around the table and
18:04
fellowship together we're just thankful
18:06
over here that the Lord has put food on
18:08
our table so let me know what are some
18:10
of the things that you do to prepare for
18:12
Thanksgiving dinner so that when
18:14
Thanksgiving comes you kind of just make
18:16
the process go along faster
18:18
um the first time that I prepared
18:19
Thanksgiving dinner wasn't done until
18:21
five six o'clock in the afternoon but
18:24
now I am normally able to be done with
18:26
that well before afternoon like done in
18:28
the morning so let me know what you guys
18:30
do also you know any tips or tricks that
18:33
you all have to share with me to make
18:35
this process go a lot smoother again
18:38
Happy Thanksgiving to you all and your
18:41
family and if you enjoyed this video
18:43
don't forget to give it a thumbs up and
18:46
don't forget to subscribe to my channel
18:47
for more content just like this thank
18:50
you as always for watching my video
18:52
that'll be all for today until next time
